The Sapling Co.

friends + muddy horses

If you know me, you know I am absolutely an open book. I hide almost nothing about. and it’s not for any other reason than just enjoying letting people get to know who I am right off the bat. it seems easier this way so people can decide up front if they want to be friends with me or not ha! sort of like “what you see is what you get, take it or leave it” mentality.

well because of this type of personality, i’m genuinely open to anyone and everyone. something really awesome about living a lifestyle like we do is that people often want to be involved and take part. they want to experience it too as most live in town or in a city. OR maybe they live in the country but the farming and homestead life isn’t something they desired to dive into.

as much as I love isolation and being antisocial, there is a special place in my heart for people who want to learn and experience “a day in the life”.

we’ve been blessed with THE SWEETEST neighbors. most of them are elderly, but beyond kind and always willing to lend a hand since the day we bought the home. but up behind our property a few acres is a super sweet family with young kids that have always enjoyed stopping by while we are doing chores! they also are always bring over hand-me-down clothes and dolls for rowan as their girls are a little older. seriously couldn’t ask for better neighbors!

they’ve offered countless times too take care of the animals for us if we are ever away and so forth. which as a hobby farmer and homesteader, you KNOW finding trustworthy people to care for your animals is not an easy task!

so, on this beautiful saturday with a high of 55, my neighbor texted and asked if they could stop by to help with chores and see the horses. of course I could think of nothing better to do today! the horses haven’t been groomed in so long due to soooo much soupy mud, but its finally dry enough to start grooming regularly again and keep them purty ☺️ not to mention its just good in general to get the horses out and socialized with new people and kids as that. walking around them, brushing them, touching them on either side etc. its just a excellent way to keep your horse desensitized and used to many hands big and small all over them. we added a little more chaos by letting the goats roam and graze as well now that the property isn’t a soppy mess!

I absolutely love sharing my knowledge and passions with people. if someone wants to come see what we do, they are always welcome. I am in no way an expert.. but I will gladly share any knowledge I’ve managed to learn over the years. having someone show interest and want to learn about my passions just makes my entire day.

needless to say, today was exactly what we all needed. warm sunshine, grooming and bonding with the horses and great friendships built!
