suncatchers

Yesterday was not an easy day.. I had this activity planned for a while, but upon gathering the supplies I received the text that my sweet aunt Janet had lost her short battle with cancer.

The kids don’t know it, but I really felt like these little sun-catchers were for her yesterday. Janet would have loved this activity and probably would have left a “LOVE IT” img in the comments like she always did. I loved how she loved watching my kids grow up over Facebook since we couldn’t see her much, and I loved counting on her interactions with my posts of my family.

Wilder was one of her favorite little great great nephews. she had told my grandma hoegh that she loved how he would always let her hold him and sit on her lap for long time. he was never shy with her. he would love to be held and spend time with her just sitting and enjoying watching the family she loved carry on around her as she always did at every family gathering. always content. always happy. all she needed was her family and nothing else. oh how I wish I could be that content and joyful no matter what my circumstance.

You will be sincerely missed aunt Janet. Life just won’t be quite the same without you. I’m so saddened you’re gone, but so happy that you are pain free and at peace. Love you inside and out ❤️ enjoy these sun-catchers from heaven made especially for you to shine down on 🙂☀️

supplies:

bowl

water

flowers, twigs, leaves (anything in nature!)

string or yarn

directions:

{step 1/2- we did not do this, but I read boiling the water a few times first can help make the ice freeze crystal clear as opposed to cloudy.}

step 1- pour the water into your bowl to the desired depth. this took a bit for us to figure out. maybe 2-3 inches

step 2- add your nature supplies. flatter flowers work best and display better! {please be sure to use all natural decorations to avoid littering and pollution}

step 3- submerge each end of your string into the water leaving the midsection draped outside the bowl. this will be what it hangs on. {I recommend string over yarn as the yarn tended to float and didn’t submerge well, we had to flowers on top of then to get them deeper in the water{

step 4- freeze in a freezer or if it’s cold enough, leave your bowls outside to freeze!

step 5- once frozen, remove the ice from the bowl {we warmed the bowl with hot water to break it free without cracking the ice}

step 6- hang your suncatchers on a tree branch or porch! {please be sure to pick up and properly discard of the string/yarn once they melt to avoid littering and pollution}
